Tips for a Smooth Move

Are you about to move house? Abbey Removals are here to keep your stress to a minimum. Follow these tips to make your move as smooth as possible:

Be Organised

Start moving weeks prior to the move date. Allow for enough time for packing in advance. Begin packing as early and consistently as possible. Don’t leave it until the last minute.

Items not needed on a daily basis can be packed ahead of time, but keep all necessities where they’re easily accessable, not hidden in a box. This could include blankets, pillows, medication, phones and laptops, clothes or anything else you might need straight away once the move is complete.

Pack Boxes Efficiently

As the move date creeps closer, people tend to cram their belongings into any place that’ll fit.

However, the difference between having neatly-packed boxes and a jumble of your possessions is huge. It’s worth taking the time and effort to arrange your things in an orderly manner.

Place similar items together so that you’ll be able to find them later. This will save you from having to pull apart every box in order to find everyday items.

Label your boxes instead of relying on your memory. Using the labels will make all the difference when you unpack later.

Pack things neatly and wrap fragile items. This will ensure maximum efficiency of space and keep your items safe in transit.

Don’t Keep Junk

Do you really need everything you’ve collected over the years? Will there be room at your next property to comfortably store these items?

The general rule is: When in doubt, throw it out.

Before you throw it in the bin, check to see if there is a way to sustainably dispose of your unwanted goods. Many second-hand stores will happily take your pre-loved clothing, crockery, electronics, CDs and toys. However, it does pay to check with your chosen charity or group before you drop off unwanted items.

Recycling organisations can dispose of your old computers, televisions, electronics and mobile phones.

You can even sell items to get a bit of cash back. Garage sales are an efficient way of getting rid of clutter while making money. Also, online sales, social media sites and classified sites like Gumtree are home to thousands of people waiting to snap up a bargain.
